This course is designed for staff who may have a need on occasions to temporarily immobilise a person be that for their personal safety or to assist in the lawful detainment of a person. .
Learners wishing to attend this course will have ideally previously had some form of conflict management training and physical intervention training both of which will be the primary options prior to the need for the use of handcuffs.
Course breakdown
· Conflict management check / mini refresher
· The law surrounding the use of reasonable and necessary force.
· Refresh basic physical intervention techniques.
· Advanced physical intervention techniques surrounding the use of handcuffs.
· Demonstrate the safe carrying, application and removal of cuffs
· Demonstrating application of handcuffs to a potentially non-compliant person
· Understand the medical implications surrounding the use of handcuffs.
· Post incident support and reporting procedures
This is a 1 day course which is held in the classroom.
Learners will be assessed by:
· question and answering sessions throughout the course.
· Practical demonstrations of each technique
Learners will be issued with a certificate of completion and competency of their understanding of the law, medical implications and the safe application and removal of handcuffs.
